What is Data Anonymization?
Data anonymization is the process in which personally identifiable information is altered in such a way that it can no longer be identified directly or indirectly. When you anonymize a subscriber in Taguchi, the email and phone number fields are one-way hashed, while the remaining fields are removed. This one-way hash is used to generate the subscriber hash, a unique authentication hash for tracking anonymized subscriber interactions without exposing sensitive information.
Why Use Data Anonymization?
Anonymizing a profile is beneficial in order to:
- Track important events for a subscriber, such as global unsubscribe timestamps, sent emails, and interaction history.
- Comply with data privacy requirements by retaining interaction data without storing personally identifiable information (PII).
Matching Anonymized Records
If a data file contains the email address or phone number of a previously anonymized profile, Taguchi can match it back to the anonymized record using the hashed values. This allows the system to re-populate the anonymized record with necessary data while ensuring that interaction history and unsubscribe status remain intact.
How to Anonymize Subscriber Profiles
To anonymize a subscriber profile in Taguchi, you can:
- Manually anonymize profiles by selecting the red "Anonymize" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the subscriber profile page (see below).
- Automate the anonymization process by configuring the settings with the help of the Taguchi Support team.
The subscriber hash generated during this process is a key element for maintaining a secure and efficient tracking system for anonymized subscribers.
Please contact Taguchi Support if you have any questions or if you would like to setup an automated anonymization process.
